Dear Connetquot Community,

I am writing to address a recent media report regarding lead levels in the drinking water at Connetquot High School. The information shared in that news story is inaccurate, due to an error in the state’s publicly reported database. After becoming aware of the news report, the district immediately contacted state officials, who have acknowledged the error and are working to correct the mistake on their end.

RMS Band and Navy veteran unite in musical salute to veterans

Every year, Ronkonkoma Middle School Symphonic Band members have the opportunity to perform the Battle Hymn of the Republic and Marches of the Armed Forces to honor the veterans in our community at the annual Veteran’s Day celebration. 

Mr. Paul F. Piekut (father to Mrs. Elizabeth Alaimo, the RMS 7/8th grade band director) served in the United States Navy and played trumpet in the Navy Band during the Vietnam War. During the RMS Veteran’s Day rehearsal and performance on Nov. 7, Mr. Piekut played trombone alongside the symphonic band students. He then spoke with the students and answered their questions about his experience playing the trumpet in the United States Navy band. 

Congratulations to all band members on an outstanding performance that made our school and community proud!
